DIY Gel Manicure *hack*

Pin It Now!

Have you admired those shiny new Gel Nail Polishes? Ever wanted to get a pretty Gel Manicure for your nails but don't want to pay the high cost of having it done at a Salon? Well you are in luck! Just watch this short video from my You Tube Channel and find out 3 Easy Steps to get that perfect Gel Manicure look for much less than it costs in a salon.

There are several options to purchase Gel Manicure polishes and the lights that go along with them. Sally Hansen has a great system, you can purchase anywhere from Target to Wal-Mart. But even at discount store prices the light can cost up to $30 and the polishes can run you $8 to $10 each. Not a great deal. You could choose to go the salon route, and let a professional nail artist give you a Gel Manicure. But be prepared to spend as much as $35 just for one set of polished nails. Either of these options are a little too rich for my blood. So when I ran across a *hack* that you could Do Yourself with a few simple steps I just had to give it a try.

DIY Gel Manicure - 3 Easy Steps:

1) The first thing you will need is bottle of Sally Hansen "Hard As Wraps" polish. This is a blue tinted polish that works as a base coat and will set the nail for the other coats that you will apply after this. One coat should do the trick. *Make sure your nails are clean and cuticles trimmed before applying. And be sure to let this coat dry completely before you move on to the next step...

2) Next, you can use Any Brand and Color of Nail Polish you prefer. A thicker formula of polish is best and you will need to apply two coats. Essie, Sally Hansen, or O.P.I are the best polish brands to use.

3) The final step is to apply one top coat of Sally Hansen "No Chip Acrylic Top Coat". *It has to be the Acrylic formula.* This will act as a shellac and harden over the other coats to give a high gloss, glass like appearance.

The final look is beautiful! This system typically will last about a week, you may need to do a few touch ups here and there to extend the look if you use your hands a lot or are very rough with your nails. But otherwise they *hack* works very well. And compared to the price of purchasing a polish + light system or having the Gel Manicure done at a salon, it's a great deal.

I purchased each of the items at Target. I used a Wet 'n Wild MegaLast polish for the color, it was about $2. The Sally Hansen items ran about $5 a piece.

My favorite feature of this DIY Gel Manicure is that the base coat of the "Hard As Wraps" allows you to peel off the polish saving you from having to go through the hassle of nail polish remover.

Give it a try! And come back and comment to let me know how it works...
